Mom's foot update

We got a good report from the doctor today. He said mom was progressing well and is ready to start putting "some" weight on her foot. She no longer has the cast but does have a boot. She just got done washing her foot for the first time since December 15th. For now she will continue to use the scooter at work, but use crutches at home with some pressure on the foot, increasing as she feels comfortable. We go back in 3 weeks. Then she will likely start physical therapy to rebuild the strength and motion in the leg. We're making progress.

Stormy Weather

We had a little too stormy weather last night. We woke to a very loud crack of lightning sometime between 1 and 2 a.m.. After unplugging a few things and going back to bed I thought I kept hearing trucks. Eventually I looked around and there were all kind of lights (including red and blue) to the south. I went out and it was the fire dept at the house Nielsen's used to live in (now Dixon's) at the bottom of the hill. Marcus Colgrove, who lives behind us had seen a flash and thought the lightning had hit their propane line. He went over there immediately to make sure they were up etc and apparently there was fire at the stove (quite the responsible neighbor!!). Mr Dixon was out of town so it was just his wife there. Ended up with damage to the kitchen and living area.
That was pretty close to home!!!

FYI - For anyone who hasn't heard, mom & I made the trip to the Nebraska Furniture Mart Sunday and now have a bigger TV for the basement. Hopefully between it and the sound system stuff, I might have it all figured out and in place by the Holidays!!!!!
Who would have thought that while we're looking for exercise and good recipes that we would provide the incentive to be couch potatoes!!

Biggest Loser FCSA

Hi family - I just wanted to let you know that I am participating in the Farm Credit version of Biggest Loser starting tomorrow September 2nd. We had to state a percentage we wanted to lose in an intensive 12 weeks (ends just before Thanksgiving) I have committed to 7.5%. I welcome you support and challenges (accountability) to keep me on track.
