Trip to the ER

The doggie ER, that is. Bigsby dealt us his first trip to the ER tonight, and of course it just HAD to happen on the one night Casey has been out of town for work in nearly two months. I had let Bigsby out to run around because he was driving me nuts while I was cooking. When I let him back in he came in and sat down on the landing and I realized he was chewing on something....it was GLASS!!! One of my tealight holders had broken out by the fence and he got ahold of part of the broken glass. So, after some phone calls and internet searches, we went to the Animal Emergency Clinic to have him x-rayed just in case he swallowed some. No glass that we could find (after they made him vomit....ewww) but he did have part of a pair of underwear and the fabric straps to a sports bra that he had destroyed last Saturday STILL in his tummy. He also had some rocks in there. So, needless to say the vet bill was more than the cost of the dog, but Bigsby is just fine. From now on I guess we will keep a more watchful eye on him!!!

Stormy Weather

We had a little too stormy weather last night. We woke to a very loud crack of lightning sometime between 1 and 2 a.m.. After unplugging a few things and going back to bed I thought I kept hearing trucks. Eventually I looked around and there were all kind of lights (including red and blue) to the south. I went out and it was the fire dept at the house Nielsen's used to live in (now Dixon's) at the bottom of the hill. Marcus Colgrove, who lives behind us had seen a flash and thought the lightning had hit their propane line. He went over there immediately to make sure they were up etc and apparently there was fire at the stove (quite the responsible neighbor!!). Mr Dixon was out of town so it was just his wife there. Ended up with damage to the kitchen and living area.
That was pretty close to home!!!

brueseke update

Hey everyone - I just wanted to update you all on a couple things.

1. we're leaving tonight (well, about 2am) to go to Virginia. It's about a 14-15 hour drive so it should be fun with a toddler who loves to run around. It's now almost 2pm and he is still refusing to take a nap for today. normally he's asleep by 11am...12:30 at the latest. i'm hoping he's just burning all his energy so he can sleep all day tomorrow.

2. boden and i are planning to visit Nov 22-24 (Sat-Mon). We'll get in around 11am on Sat and leave around 7pm on Monday. Please let me know if any of you won't be around then so that we can reschedule for a different weekend. i'll be booking the plane ticket in the next couple days.

IV

So...I got to start an IV today!!! and I got to administer meds through an IV too...which is all new stuff since I just learned how to do it last week!

This week has been VERY stressful. School is just kicking my butt right now. My clinical patient this week was very involved as well. But I have been getting stuff done and am still planning on going camping...just taking along some study materials for Sat. morn. :)
